Will Google plus inch past Twitter by 2013?

Yesterday was worth celebration for Twitter. The day marks its birth anniversary. On this very day, Twitter stepped into the virtual universe. But amidst celebration is looming grave concern over its future, especially when it is an open secret that Google Plus is marching ahead at a staggering pace.

According to its number count theory, Google Plus has already 140 million active users. Though the number is less than what is being enjoyed by Twitter but pace at which Google Plus is progressing matters a lot. Google Plus is expected to beat Twitter by early 2013 according to the industry watches who have always kept a tab on these two social networking giants.

Say it covert intention or overt expression, Google has always tried to get only the numero uno position. It has acquired the same in the world of search engines and it want to do it once again in the arena of social networking. However in spite Google’s overwhelming resurgence as Google Plus, Facebook is still the forerunner. Deep in the mind, Google is aspiring to make its footprints everywhere as one that aims to shine and not to reflect. It eyes on becoming a one-stop shop for a wider variety of social media needs.

Like the real world, virtual villa is a place where the fittest only survive. So, to retain its position, Twitter needs to be intuitive and innovative. Twitter has taken itself to the point of sticky addiction but in order to stay always ahead of Google Plus, it needs to incorporate some robust features. Google has integrated several riveting features like threaded conversation, video insets, handouts, photograph etc. to widen its breadth. More developments are in the pipeline and this scenario may push Twitter to a 'killing zone', provided it chooses not to breathe fresher apps into its site.

It is no doubt that the social networking field is tuning to a paradigm shift with Google playing the role of a key player. It is not defensive in its strategy, rather quite open to inclusion of new-age killing features and functions into its site. However, as far as the business completion is concerned, some critics opine that Google will not push Twitter from its current position in order to outsmart the final frontier (they mean to say, Facebook). However, the rest have discarded this view and said in no uncertain terms that prediction (that Google Plus will race past Twitter) will soon match with the reality.
